A thin material bears a grave weight. The emptied paper holds austerity while centring attention on materiality. Funeral rituals have long embodied the achromatic, in white chrysanthemums and lilies, and in the attire worn by the bereaved: colourlessness as detachment from worldly concerns, a setting aside of self-adornment. Here the reverse of the embossed print is displayed within the wooden frame. An image is transferred between two surfaces, producing two related yet distinct states, each at once the reflection and the inversion of the other.
